This tourmaline exhibits the quintessential “watermelon” zoning, with concentric colour bands that rival the finest examples known. The outermost rim glows a deep forest green, rich and saturated, surrounding a delicate rose-pink blush. This soft hue gradually intensifies into a deep raspberry-fuchsia core, culminating in ethereal flashes of lustrous golden iridescence — an extremely rare and desirable feature in such specimens. The slab is thick and robust at 16mm, lending both presence and dimension for exhibition.
🧬 Geological Significance:
Watermelon tourmaline is a bi-coloured (or tri-coloured) variety of elbaite — part of the boron silicate tourmaline group — prized for its natural, unenhanced zonation formed during complex shifts in the crystal's growth environment. This specimen's clarity and colour zoning suggest it was formed in a highly stable hydrothermal pocket, where ideal mineral conditions allowed for the crystal’s uninterrupted development.
💎 Aesthetic & Metaphysical Appeal:
Beyond its geological value, watermelon tourmaline is treasured in the metaphysical world as a crystal of joy, emotional balance, and spiritual protection. Its colour transition mirrors the heart chakra, often believed to harmonize emotions, inspire compassion, and bring deep inner peace. This piece is as healing as it is mesmerizing — a stone of vitality and sunshine, believed to open the soul to adventure and joy.
🌿 Provenance & Shipping:
This piece was responsibly sourced from trusted artisanal miners in Afghanistan, known for producing some of the world’s most coveted tourmaline. It is shipped securely from our cottage in the Lake District, UK, where it has been lovingly handled and admired under natural light and gentle northern skies.
✨ A Collector’s Statement Piece
This is not merely a gemstone — it is a natural painting formed over millions of years, a once-in-a-generation find. Ideal for prominent display under natural or LED lighting, or in a mineral cabinet with UV-reactive illumination to showcase its golden iridescence.
